Welcome to another end-of-the-week check in where I share the things that brought me joy this week.
A Week in my Life Vlog:
Joy List:
Currently Watching: Bridgerton
Ok, I finally caved! People have been telling me to watch Bridgerton for years and I’ve always put it off because I have this weird thing where if people tell me to do something I tend to do the opposite (‘don’t touch that plate it’s hot!’ *immediately touches plate*).
I’m not a fan of period dramas and I’m not that into historical fiction (I’ve never even seen or read Pride and Prejudice!) and thought Bridgerton was going to be like Downton Abbey. However, I’ve now finished season one and actually really enjoying it! It has a Gossip Girl vibe which I like and the characters aren’t as vapid as I was expecting them to be. So far Eloise is my favourite: rebellious, quick-witted, confident and opinionated in the way all great women are.
There really is an awful lot of sex in this show isn’t there? I suppose they didn’t have TV back then and not much else to do but if you’re not into multiple rampant sex scenes this may not be the one for you (and definitely don’t watch it with your parents).
Themes: class | marriage | London Regency era | opulence
Currently reading: I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts On Being A Woman by Nora Ephron (with an introduction from Dolly Alderton)
I’m only a few chapters in but Ephron’s witty and relatable prose has already had me laughing in coffee shops and making a list of who I want to recommend this book to. The book is a collection of her work covering topics from how useless handbags are to ‘maintenance’ to menopause, empty nests and more: written with a healthy dose of cynicism, I Feel Bad About My Neck is hilarious and I can’t wait to read more.
Themes: Womanhood | beauty | passage of time | relationships | ageing
Currently listening to: Anne of the Island by Lucy M. Montgomery
I’m actually listening to this as a sleep story (after previously listening to the first and second book in the series: Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea). So not entirely sure if that actually counts as ‘reading’ the book because I listen with the intention of falling asleep (I’m an awful sleeper and usually end up hearing the majority of the story) but I’m listening to it nonetheless.
My friend sent me a beautiful hardback copy of Anne of Green Gables a while back - we both love the story and see ourselves in Anne (the main character who we suspect is autistic like us) - so I look forward to reading this beautiful copy soon.
“Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It’s splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.” - Anne Shirley
Currently Loving:
To be honest I’m struggling with what to write here today. This past week I’ve felt a little off. I wouldn't exactly call it depression but it maybe feels like I’m on a slippery slope in that direction. So, this is a gentle reminder (to me and for you if you need it) that I need to be looking after myself and pouring extra time and energy into self-care at the moment.

Outfit of the week:
Before you ask, yes it is June and yes, this is an autumn outfit but that’s how rubbish the weather is here! I do love autumn fashion though so I’m not too grumpy about it.
